Duluth Retiree Healthcare Lawsuit Back In Court

By KBJR News 1

Retired city workers who filed a lawsuit against the City of Duluth earlier this year over their Health benefits were back in court today.
Judge Kenneth Sandvik and attorneys from both sides met behind closed doors.
No settlement was reached today by the parties.

But the Judge said both sides would like to settle the matter out of court if possible.
Right now the temporary restraining order against the city is still in effect.
Officials say the measure mandates that any proposed changes or issues that have to do with city retiree healthcare benefits have to go through the court.
Two city retirees and one spouse filed suit against the city saying their benefits had unlawfully changed.
Earlier today Mayor Don Ness said the lawsuit had no merit.

"There has been no policy change to the benefit," Ness said. "And the benefit was exactly and the benefit is exactly as it was last year

The court will check the status of negotiations by phone on November 24th.
