Lincoln Park's Harrison Community Center Re-Opens

By KBJR News 1

Duluth's Lincoln Park neighborhood was celebrating the grand re-opening of the Harrison Community Center this Saturday morning.

The building sustained more than 300- thousand dollars in damage from a fire in July of 2007.

Wanting to keep the facility's doors open, the community organized a fundraising campaign that generated more than $20,000.
Organizers say the efforts did more than save the Harrison, but that it helped unite a community.

Heath Hickok, coordinator of the "Save the Harrison Campaign" thinks one of the most interesting things about their progress is, " people donated was that not only Lincoln Park businesses and residents contributed, but people throughout the city and across the region made donations, so it really does show that what happens here in Lincoln Park does have a positive impact on the surrounding communities."

The City of Duluth contributed another $80,000 towards the insurance deductible needed for repairs.
