Red Lake Nation of Ojibwe Celebrate in Duluth's Lester Park

By KBJR News 1

Dozens of members from the Red Lake Nation of Ojibwe came together in Duluth's Lincoln Park Saturday afternoon.

The tribe honored their culture during a native community picnic and acknowledged the accomplishments of the Fond Du Lac students language preservation efforts.

But the event involved much more than celebration.

Organizers say the get-together also serves as a way to address issues facing the tribe, "The important thing is that... collusion. We're all getting together and we're all concerned about a lot of different social aspects that affect us here in this Duluth community," emphasizes Bill Morrison with the Red Lake Nation of Ojibwe.

The Red Lake Reservation Tribal Council is in the process of opening its new Red Lake Urban office in Duluth.

The office will provide domestic abuse and homeless services as well as work on preserving the Native American culture.

So, was the picnic at Lester Park or Lincoln Park? I'm confused.
