DEDA Examines Reorganization Plans

By KBJR News 1

In the light of city budget woes, the Duluth Economic Development Authority-DEDA-is examining reorganization plans.

The group held a meeting Monday at City Hall to discuss some of the proposed changes.

DEDA president Jim Stauber says the authority is discussing whether to relocate from the council chambers to prepaid space at the Technology Village downtown.

DEDA officials say the authority receives no city funding, but the majority of their revenue comes from the creation of Tax Increment Financing Districts.

DEDA pays the city for use of city staff and Stauber says the authority is being asked to pay more money.

"The city asked us for $439,000, you know, a 200,000 dollar increase. We could make that this year, we could make that contribution to the city, but next year we won't be able to do that."

DEDA says their prepaid space at Technology Village has sat empty for six years.
