WLSSD Celebrates 30yrs

By KBJR News 1

Western Lake Superior Sanitary District is celebrating 30-years of cleaner water.

In 1978, WLSSD began operating its state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant on the St. Louis County River.

Back then, the river was full of toxic chemicals and floating scum.

Tuesday the Saint Louis River is now a popular recreational site for water activities.

"From employees to legislatures, from customers to community members, and as a community we work together to protect and preserve the natural resources that are so important to public health, our economy and our quality of life."

WLSSD also celebrated former executive director Kurt Soderberg, as he was honored by Lake Superior Magazine as this year's Achievement Award recipient.
