Antlerless Hunt Aimed at Deer Population Control

By KBJR News 1

Hunters in 30 of Minnesota's deer areas spent the weekend helping control deer populations by taking part in an antlerless deer hunt.

The early antlerless firearms season was first conducted in 2005.

It's designed to help reduce deer populations in areas that are significantly above goal and where current intensive management strategies have not been effective in lowering deer populations.

Last year more than 23- thousand people participated in the hunt and more than 7-thousand deer were harvested.
