Grenade Detonated In Superior

By KBJR News 1

Late Monday afternoon Superior Police officers were called to Simko Superior...a scrap metal facility, following the discovery of a hand grenade.

Officers arrived on scene and found an intact World War Two vintage hand grenade.

They then called up the Explosive Ordinance Disposal team from the
148th Fighter Wing to detonate the grenade.

It's unknown how long the grenade was at the facility... or who may have turned it in but the support group commander had some ideas about what may have happened.

"What we're experiencing now is with the loss of the World War II veterans a lot of people brought things home way back when not knowing and the spouses and the families are finding things in the attics and garages that have been there since 1945 when the men came home and they were young men and just had them sitting around as a war souvenir."

The grenade was destroyed by the team in an empty gravel area near SIMKO.
