Duluth Police Investigate Robbery Trend

By KBJR News 1

Duluth Police are asking for your help with a dangerous, emerging trend of late night robberies and muggings.
Two people were mugged just last night.
And a few days ago, another person was robbed.
Joel Runck has the story.

"Looking back through 2008 there's been approximately 112 robberies and it is a little bit alarming," said Sgt. Leigh Wright of the Duluth Police Department.

On November 18, two separate robberies occurred.
One happened where the victims offered a suspect a ride to 23rd Avenue West and 2nd Street.
When the assailant exited the vehicle, a gun was brandished and money was stolen.

The other robbery occurred on the Chester Park Bridge.
The victim's hand was slashed and money was demanded.
A few days ago, a man was robbed at 8th Avenue East and 6th Street.

"To be honest, I'm not that much more concerned," said Matthew Brown, Duluth resident. "Stuff like that has happened around here before It's probably going to keep happening I definitely know that there's a police presence around here."

Police say if you're approached by an assailant, it is best to obey their commands.

"We're telling people that if they were approached by an assailant...they should comply with what the assailant wants," said Wright.
