It was the first weekend for destination Polar Express at the Duluth's Lake Superior Railroad Museum.

For the month of December, the Northshore Scenic Railroad is transformed into the mystical Polar Express.

Children and the young at heart take the magical ride from Fitger's to the Depot where they are greeted by a luminary lit pathway, carolers, and can listen to a live reading of the book.

Based on the story of a boy and girl's journey to the North Pole, organizers say it's less of a reading and more of an experience.

Executive Director of the Depot Ken Buehler explains, "There, they interact with the elves and Santa Clause and a bell from Santa's sleigh is the first gift of Christmas and how that bell rings its way through the hearts, by now of millions of people, is a real magical story and event that you have to see."

The train departs from Fitger's every weekend though December 21st.

Every year the train makes visiting the Northland version of the North Pole a reality for more than 4- thousand hungry imaginations.
