Fire Rips Through Solway Township Home

A mobile home in Solway Township is a complete loss.

Fire fighters spent Wednesday evening fighting the blaze along Munger-Shaw Road. Officials say six tankers were on scene, but even with the extra help, the building couldn't be saved. They say neighbors spotted the fire.

"The fire came as smoke alarms and smoke coming out of the four corners of the house. Upon arrival when they ventilated, it backflashed and took off from there," said Hermantown Fire Chief Don Gimpel.

Officials say the owner of the mobile home was out of town. No one was hurt in the fire.

Is there a benefit fund being set up for him & his son? My son and I have been looking for a way to give a little back at Christmas and I can't think of a better way to do that than to give this guy a little help.

So are you saying that because he didn;t have insurace we should just let him--and his son--live on the street? Where I come from---northern WI--we don't let that kind of thing happen. We step up and help our neighbors out when something happens.

It's sad that your fried lost their home. It is however even more sad that they did not have insurance. It is a homeowners responsibility to insure their property against loss, not expect everyone to donate because they didn't take proper precautions.

there are a lot of home fires in the winter months. People need to be aware of how quick a home can start on fire even if they are home or not.
