Proctor Teacher Awarded Golden Apple

Special Education can be one of the most challenging and most rewarding areas of teaching.

This month our Golden Apple award winner has faced the challenges and enjoyed the rewards as have her students.

December's Golden Apple recipient, teaches in the Proctor School District as Dave Anderson reports.

As a special education teacher in the Proctor District, Kristina Hill can devote her skills almost one on one to the students in her class.

"You know, I like smaller class sizes working with students individually."

Most of Kristina's students have autism.

She works to let people know the condition is not a hindrance to a normal life.

"The most important thing is that I want each student to know how special they are and how capable they are of doing everything everybody else does."

Ms. Hill was nominated for her golden apple by student Chris Stark.

Chris' mother says her son's teacher is kind and patient and the young boy is learning a lot; just not quite the same way as other students.

"All of my students are very capable and they can do everything everyone else can do. They just do it a bit different."
