An 87-year-old Duluth man has been invited to the upcoming presidential inauguration.
60- years ago Joe Gomer was part of an American military unit known as the Tuskegee Airmen.
It was strictly segregated along racial lines.
"The War Department set it up as an experiment because they didn't think we were capable of handling the aircraft. We changed that into the great experience," said Gomer.
All the other living Tuskegee members were invited to attend as well, but the trip is not funded.
Gomer has received overwhelming support, and a bank account has been set up by the Experimental Aircraft Association of Duluth at US bank to take donations to fund his trip.
