Superior State of The City Address

By KBJR News 1

Like any other city in the country, Superior Wisconsin is dealing with its own set of financial issues.

The state of Wisconsin is facing a major budget crisis, and in fact has one of the worst credit ratings in the country.

However Superior Mayor Dave Ross concentrated on the economic successes of Superior.

"Charter Films products are on store shelves throughout the world. Amsoil is the quality leader in the nation for synthetic oils. These are just a few of the examples where superior grown products lead the nation and the world, providing thousands of jobs to the local economy."

Ross also highlighted some important legislation that affects Superior including the Great Lakes Compact.

"The compact protects great lakes water from being diverted elsewhere in the nation. The city council went on record in unanimous support for the compact. Many of us in Superior lobbied long and passionately for the passage of this important law."

Superior Chamber of Commerce president Dave Minor says he was pleased with the address and says it highlighted what makes Superior a great city.

"I think there is a lot of positive things going on in our community and sometimes you have to take a step back and look at them they're not always on main street, for us it was very important that they mayor pointed those things out. "

Ross also touched on Superiors success at reducing it's debt as well as keeping taxes steady.

Mayor Ross is planning on asking the Superior city council on creating a new position within the police department for dealing with computer based crimes.
