In a surprise move today the City of Duluth announced it's dropping its investigation of payroll manager Jackie Morris.
Officials announced Morris' retirement today-saying she told the city last December that she planned to quit.

"She has worked with us for 29 years," said Lisa Potswald, City of Duluth chief administrative officer. " We will miss her and we appreciate the excellent work she's done for us."

Meanwhile the more than 3-month-old investigation into city finance director, Genie Stark continues as she receives her full salary and benefits.
Officials have continued refuse to say what that investigation is about but last year an accounting error showed many employees had been overpaying on retirement accounts for more than 10 years.
On a related note, Councilor Jim Stauber introduced a non-binding resolution at Thursday's city council meeting, asking the city to move quickly and wrap-up the investigation.
