Ball Club Murder

By KBJR News 1

Two teenage males from rural Deer River are being held in Grand Rapids in connection with the stabbing death of a Ball Club teen early Sunday morning.

17-year old Terrell Lee Wilson died in Duluth as a result of a stab wound to the left eye.

The Itasca county Sheriffs office and the Leech Lake Police Department are investigating.

This is the spot where the alleged assault took place- the intersection of Ball Club Lake Drive and County Road 39 in Ball Club. What investigators don't know is why it happened.

"We're still trying to decided the cause, what brought it to this point, did they meet in the street? We're still trying to determine the bottom line, is this just a senseless crime involving kids that shouldn't have happened? Unfortunately, it did."

The victim was taken to Deer River Health center by private vehicle... then to a Duluth hospital by ambulance. That's where he died.

Two teenagers were arrested in Grand Rapids shortly after.
They're awaiting formal charges.

"The county attorney's office is reviewing whether or not they should be charged as adults, 16 and 17 year old suspects, so there's some things we have to look at."

The two suspects went to a different school than the victim... but officials say they knew each other.

"The communities are small, we know they knew each other, we know that much, there's a lot of interaction back and forth."

The investigation is ongoing... as a close-knit community grieves.

Formal charges are expected sometime tomorrow morning.
