Every year thousands of teen aged drivers hit the roads for the first time.
Unfortunately teen drivers are some of the most distracted and risky motorists out there.
Now, a Wisconsin man is using technology to make the roadways a little bit safer.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration from 1994 to 2003 more than 57-thousand teenagers were killed in motor vehicle crashes.
However Lacrosse native Greg Grob is hoping to reverse those troubling statistics.
Grob is the owner of Hotfoot, an internet site that allows parents and other interested parties to monitor their children's driving habits.
"If somebody witnesses their teen acting up the person that witnesses it would actually be able to call an 800 number and leave a voice message and with in seconds of the voice message the parent would receive an e-mail alert."
The system is pretty simple.
Parents can logon to hotfoot.info and register for the service.
After paying an inexpensive set up fee, Grob will send a personalized decal that includes a vehicle I.D. number and the 1-800 number.
When somebody witnesses unsafe driving they can call the 8-hundred number and leave a message.
Grob says the ultimate goal for the service is to change unsafe behaviors and hopefully protect young drivers, passengers and other people from injury.
"Hopefully stop the behavior happening before they hurt themselves or somebody else."
Grob hopes that when enough people sign up for the service, insurance companies might take notice and start offering discounts for drivers that use hotfoot.
"The insurance companies take note of this and say this is a good program to have, maybe in the future it would be something where they will be able to get a discount if their teen has this."
Grob has already had 7-thousand hits on Hotfoot and he says people from as far away as Australia have contacted him about the service.
