Fake Diploma Scam

"I feel like I've got a mission. I want to stop these people and any other ones and let people know... I don't want them to get scammed," said Rena Carey, the victim of a scam.

We hear about a lot of scams these days, but this one is hitting those who want to get their high school diploma.

And this one involves a website, AdisonHighSchool.com.

To qualify for the three hundred dollar diploma, you must take a test... and that's the first clue this school is fake.

"Our high school diploma is accepted everywhere in all the colleges," said Tristen Landill, a representative for Adison High School.

Or so they say...

"Most reputable companies will not accept a diploma or a GED from an online company they'll only accept the GED through the state of Minnesota," said Barb Grieman of the Better Business Bureau.

But Rena Carey and her son Shaun, found out the hard way.

"I gave him my credit card because I thought it was on the up and up... well, then we started feeling weird," Carey said.

Shaun received all this in the mail a couple weeks later.

A High School Diploma, Letters of excellence, and transcripts with all A's and B's that say what classes he finished to get the certificate.

"He doesn't even know any of them. Look at the grades he got! and credit hours, he wasn't even on it that long.
Wrong birth-date,"

"It's not a scam. You can always check us with our accreditation IACOOS AGAC accredidation commission," Lindell said.

Those accreditations are fake.... And a report from the Better Business Bureau gave the company an "F" rating.

"It's not even a real gold seal," Carey objected.

Rena's son only needs 1.5 credits to get his diploma through the Adult Learning Center in Duluth... but this little fiasco has left him discouraged.

"It kind of floored him. It really bummed him out," Carey said.

But there is some good news, Rena has stopped payment on her credit card... and shouldn't have to pay this company any money.

Lindell said the BBB is only looking to make money... and Adison High School is not interested in paying their quote, "fees."
