Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- More than 1.2 million abortions are conducted every year in America. In Minnesota, more than 11,000 women had abortions.

Across America today, pro–life supporters marched and rallied as part of an effort called 40 Days for Life.

Peaceful Prayer Rallies were also held in an effort to reduce the number of abortions in America.

Today the campaign came through Duluth with a prayer vigil in front of the Building for Women.

The group said 500 abortions were performed at the center last year.

David Bereit, National Director of the 40 Days Campaign, says the campaign has seen dramatic results.

"Since 40 Days for Life began, we have seen more than 43–hundred mothers who were scheduled for abortions change their minds and choose life because the people praying for them outside of these facilities. We know it does change minds, it does change hearts and it saves lives," said Bereit.

Duluth is one of 301 cities across America participating in the campaign.
