Tea Party in Duluth

By KBJR News 2

It has been more than 200 years since the original Boston Tea Party, but on this tax day 2009, concerned citizens gathered across the nation for their very own tea party including hundreds in Duluth

In every major U.S. city citizens came together for tea parties.
No, these weren't reenactments of the Boston Tea party, but rather a protest of what some people see as runaway government spending.

Becky Hall says "Average citizens who care about our country, our freedoms, our worries about government overstepping it's authority in our lives, trying our hardest to live and work hard and prosper in this country"

Over 5–hundred people substituted the Duluth Harbor for the Boston Harbor and over 1–hundred people in Superior held their own party.
Many of the protesters say they don't see the tea parties as a Democrat versus Republican argument, but rather an argument about the way government is currently running.

Patricia Mullens says "This is just citizens, I've never been in a protest in America Before and we just feel like it's gotten out of hand and something has to be done, we can't keep spending and count on any success economically."

For parents Eric and Kitten Dymesich they're concern lies with their child.

"It is my son and I love him dearly and it does like my husband said it sucks that he's already in debt and I think it's awesome that there's this many people out here."

The tea parties were not organized by any political party, and the word spread about the gatherings through the internet.

Tea parties were held in Chicago, Washington D.C. and of course Boston.

As a former MNer who now lives in DC, no, Minnesota is NOT the only place who is taxed without representation. That said, these protests are silly, having enjoyed massive promotion from major partisan news outlets, and in no way indicative of the national mood on these matters.

It's funny - Minnesota is pretty much the only place where the whole "taxation without representation" thing is an actual issue right now. Because of the only-one-senator thing. And yet.

I applaud all that have participated in our Tea parties countywide and I have observed the brodacasts on fox news. In the the mid 80's I felt that we needed to speak up when political correctiness becane the thing to do. I am American and proud to speak the national language which was voted down by our congress. Of course our ancestors and immigrants from europe, mexico, asian, besides our native Indians had to learn in order to survive and live the dream. Does not Congress listen and hear-act.
