Northland Homes Built Before Hitting the Construction Site

By KBJR News 1

This scene may not look like your typical construction site.

The house you see here was actually built in a factory and then transported to Park Point in Duluth where it's being installed.

"In recent years I've seen a number of these modular homes come in and it's absolutely amazing how quickly they go up," says Park Point resident John Pegg.

Ideal Homes in Barnum and Superior is a general contracting company that purchases and installs modular homes.

Thom Reistad with Ideal Homes feels houses built in factories are of higher quality because, he says, they are manufactured in a controlled environment.

"It never gets rained on, the wind never blows, there's no snow in there, it's always 70 degrees and the lights are on," says Reistad.

Reistad says going green is a priority of the company... as Minnesota Power has tested the homes as highly energy efficient.

And everything from scrap metal to electrical cords are recycled while the homes are being built in the factory.

"It looks like a recycling center. There are bins for each particular recyclable material that is segregated in the factory and then sent off to recycling," says Reistad.

Picking out all the accessories for your home can also take a lot of time... Ideal Homes works with their customers to make the process as efficient as possible.

"People are very busy today. They can come into our office either here in Superior or in Barnum and select all of the products that are going into the home in one location," says Reistad.

Installation of the homes can take anywhere from a week to several months.

The homes are purchased from Dynamic Homes out of Detroit Lakes and come with a ten year structural warranty.
