A Northland trucking business that's been around for nearly a century is shutting down operations.

Approximately 200 people will lose their jobs when Monson Trucking closes their operations in Duluth, Virginia, and Redwing, Minnesota, and their terminal in Mauston, WI.

Officials blame the national economic downturn.

Olaf Monson started the businesses with horses and dray wagons hauling freight and coal in Zumbro, Minnesota in 1915. Today the Monson family business serves the Midwest and parts of Canada.

The company is a fourth generational family business that had a payroll of 11-million 800-thousand dollars.

The permanent shutdown will take effect on or before August 31st.
