Crash Investigation Takes Surprising Turn

By KBJR News 1

The investigation into Wednesday's car crash in west Duluth has taken a surprising turn.

Duluth Police say the 29 year old driver of a car that careened through traffic and crashed into a bakery, was huffing compressed air while she was driving.

Authorities say a passenger in the car took the wheel when the driver passed out.

Huffing compressed air to get high can cause death.

"It's just not air there's actually a chemical propellant in it that can be deadly, that's the most important thing, it's a common house hold product that parents need to be aware of and it can kill their children or kill anybody."

The driver of the car is expected to be charged with third degree DWI, reckless driving and abuse of a toxic substance.

I work with the Alliance for Consumer Education a non-profit based charitable foundation dedicated to promoting community health and well-being; specifically regarding inhalant abuse prevention- the deliberate inhalation, “sniffing” or “huffing” of household products for the purpose of “getting high.” We actively battle public misconceptions that "huffing" duster involves inhaling COMPRESSED AIR. Duster IS NOT AIR but a combination of lethal concentrations of chemical toxins!
