Northlanders Hit the Roads for the Fourth of July

By KBJR News 1

Northlanders are hitting the roads this weekend for the Fourth Of July Holiday.

AAA says more than 37 million people are expected to travel more than 50 miles or more from home this weekend.

State authorities are warning drivers to be extra careful on the roads this weekend. The Minnesota Department of safety says this is the deadliest weekend for travel.

Last year alcohol related crashes accounted for five out of eight motorist death surrounding the holiday. Officials also want to make sure if you decide to drink you designate a sober driver. And remember, Minnesota's primary seat belt legislation is now in effect. Be sure to buckle up otherwise law enforcement can pull you over.

Although traffic is always a big deal this weekend, AAA says gas prices are $1.30 cheaper, but they also project almost a 2% decline in traffic this year.
