Club Celebrates Mustangs

By KBJR News 1

One of America's most iconic automobiles is the Ford Mustang.

It's been around for nearly a half century and has a legion of fans here in the Northland.

Dave Anderson introduces us to the Twin Ports Mustang and Ford Club.

Cars have evolved a lot since the day of the Model T Ford.

Some people think that evolution peaked with the Ford Mustang in 1964.

Judy Aunet, a librarian in Superior, thinks so. She's been a Mustang fan for years.

"First car I ever bought was a 67 Mustang fastback."

Judy is a member of the Twin Ports Mustang and Ford Club.

She and about 85 other Northlanders in the club love the little pony car in part because of its longevity - 45 years now which is longer than any of the auto's competitors.

"Take the Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger, they eliminated them and brought them back. The Mustang has stayed the course the whole time."

The club goes on cruises and puts on car shows like this one at Sonju in Two Harbors.

Along with having fun, they contribute to the community.

"The money raised from our car shows goes to scholarships and we donate money to libraries wherever our members are from."

After 45 years of Ford Mustangs, the club members' love affair with the sporty 2+2 continues unabated.

"Isn't that everybody's love - the original Mustang? Everybody thinks that's the first muscle car!"

You don't have to actually own a Mustang to join the Twin Ports Club.

You just have to love them.
