Franken Marches In The Iron Range

By KBJR News 1

The tone was exuberant to say the least.

Everyone reporter Tiffany Tarrolly spoke with in Aurora Friday- including a number of characters- were ecstatic to know Minnesota finally has its second U- S Senator.

"I'm proud of him. He did a good job."

"I'm really pleased we have a second senator."

"I'm real happy. It's been long enough."

Even though he hasn't even been sworn in just yet two folks who dressed up as Star Trek space cadets are happy with Franken's performance so far.

"I think he truly wants to do a good job and his heart's in the right place. I noticed he got choked up a few times and I think the whole impact of it's just kind of slowly hitting him but I'm excited because I think he'll do well," said Paul Wright, a Biwabik native.

"I think he set a really good tone for going forward and you know now he just needs to get to work," said Kristin Tupa, who completed the Star Trek duo.

While in Aurora, Franken said his first line of business will be health care.

And a crazy- looking bird- man didn't really care who won the race- he just wants some answers.

"I am kind of poking fun at our senate situation and um saying that we should have a system that counts, when it recounts, it should come out with the same number of ballots counted. So like when you take a test at school like the teacher should have the same number of students as tests," said Twin Cities resident Dan Schink.

Franken shook hands with fans and spoke to the crowd.
And of course, he himself is happy the long race is now over.

"I'm just happy it's finally over. I get sworn in next Tuesday, and I can finally get to work," Franken said.

Senator- elect Franken has a busy Independence day tomorrow.
He'll march in four more parades tomorrow in Eveleth, Nashwauk, Keewatin and Biwabik.

He'll be sworn in on Tuesday in Washington D.C.
