4th St. lanes to be closed for a week

August 18, 2014 Updated Aug 18, 2014 at 6:57 PM CDT

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- On Tuesday, Aug. 19th through Friday, 4th St. will be reduced to one lane in preparation for road renovation. The actual road work won't begin until 2016.

During the lane closing, soil borings will be done to analyze the soil type.

The closure will be between 6th Avenue East and Wallace Avenue.
Although traffic will be slowed, crews will work on high travel areas only during off–peak travel times.

Drivers are urged to find alternative routes to their destinations if possible.

In addition, as part of a joint project with the City of Duluth, the St. Louis County Public Works Department will be reconstructing nearly two miles of 4th Street through Duluth's East Hillside.

The soil borings are needed as part of the preliminary design work for that project.
