Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Northland health care providers say fireworks injuries over the 4th of July weekend were thankfully scarce.

Spokespeople for Essentia Health in Duluth say one child in Superior suffered burns to the hand from fireworks but St. Luke's Hospital reports no fireworks injuries.

In Detroit a meteorologist, visiting his family in Iowa, suffered a serious injury from a fireworks accident Friday night.

WXYZ-TV reports its Chief Meteorologist, Dave Rexroth, lost sight in an eye when a firework exploded close to him.

He is currently hospitalized in Iowa City and is scheduled to undergo surgery on Wednesday.
