Northland Family Picks Up the Pieces After Fire

By KBJR News 1

It's the wake-up call no family wants to hear.
On the morning of July Fourth, one Northland couple awoke to the news that their home was on fire.

Amongst the charred remains and shattered glass, Curtis and Lindsay Robertson and their 14-month old child are trying to come to grasp with what happened.

"I thought I was dreaming, I had to take a shower to make sure it wasn't a dream," said Lindsay.

Curtis and Lindsay had lived in the house for a little over a year. The family was at a relative's home when the bad news arrived.

"Cops showed up and asked if anybody was there and I said 'no,' and they said 'well your house is engulfed in flames' and it was gone," said Curtis.

The Robertsons say the cause of the fire is still under investigation. However, they say it's likely the blaze started near an outside oil tank.

"Either smoke damage, water or soot--it's all gone," said Curtis.

The fire caused significant damage to the home, but right now the family says their biggest loss is memories.

The Robertsons say they were able to salvage a few items, but the blaze proved to be too much for some of the family's treasures, including baby pictures.

"We lost all our wedding pictures--(Curtis')wedding ring," said Lindsay.

Curtis and Lindsay got married last year, but now there are only remnants of their special day. While the loss is devastating, the Robertson's say they'll make it through.

"Nothing happened to us--that's the main thing," said Lindsay.

The Red Cross has stepped in to help the family.

They don't look very sad or distraught. Without the house in the back ground, it looks like a happy family photo. Very sad indeed :0(
