Police Identify Two People Of Interest In Home Invasions

By KBJR News 1

Cloquet Police have identified two people of interest in a pair of brazen home invasions.

Intruders got into two Cloquet homes late Sunday night through unlocked doors and as LeAnn Wallace reports, police are still investigating the incidents.

Police say families in two Cloquet homes were fast asleep when the intruders walked in through unlocked doors and took gaming equipment, computer accessories, a purse, and more.

They also stole a mini–van and tried to hot wire three other vehicles.
Investigators say the burglars didn't appear to have a sophisticated plan.

"The burglaries were somewhat disorganized. It appears they were searching for items, they would take something, then not take it, they were undecided on what they were going to take," says Deputy Chief Terry Hill of the Cloquet Police Department.

The burglaries may have been random but they have left many in the small Cloquet community upset. David Wangen has lived in Cloquet's Erickson Acre's for 11 years.

"Neighborhood's been really, really safe, just a great, great family neighborhood, it's not uncommon to see kids on the streets riding their bikes and walking around."

Police say incidents like this are rare for the normally quiet community.

"We don't see a lot of this so it is a front burner case for us."

One of the stolen items, a check card, came in handy in tracking two people of interest.

"They attempted to use it in Forest Lake at a convince store and we are now in the process of sifting through that video."

The surveillance pictures show the stolen car, matched by the license plate as well as clear pictures of two young people in their teens or early 20s.

The pictures were broadcast as police asked for the public's help. Within a few hours after the pictures were shown police identified the two people and plan to track them down for questioning.

And although many residents hope there won't be any more burglaries in the neighborhood, they're still taking extra precautions.

"We're double checking our doors and windows each night just to make sure that we're all locked up and safe before we go to bed," says Wangen.

The investigation is ongoing.
