Circus Act Gets Unwanted Attention On Iron Range

By KBJR News 1

An elephant anywhere in Minnesota would surely get some attention.

But this week, one circus act is getting attention that it doesn't want.

Some people in Hoyt Lakes are expressing concern about Tiny the elephant being used in the Liebling Brothers circus.

The small circus which includes pony rides, monkeys and Tiny the elephant, travels mostly to small towns.

Tom Liebling, who owns the circus says he frequently gets objections from people to displaying his animals.

But he says he treats all his animals like family.

"We take care of them. We bathe her. You just seen me giving her a bath. She's gets a bath about six, seven times day. Gets good water, good food, hay. What else you can do? Anything she wants she'll have."

The circus acts says their show has been protested two times by PETA and despite it, their show will go on.

I bet the same losers who don't like this have pets at home.

I'm very sure that elephants DON'T like being chained up for most of the day... so they don't wander off. And, I'm sure they DON"T like to be hauled around in a semi-truck trailer. AND, I know that elephants WOULD LIKE companions of their own species, too. Bathing and feeding an elephant is hyst the basics. So how can this circus provide for the psychological requirements for an elephant?

Poor Tiny... the chain attached to her front leg isn't wrapped to protect her skin. And the video still shot above shows her stretched out, pulling against the chain. So this is a 'creature comfort'? I'd bet Tiny would love The Elephant Sanctuary... she can roam around in grass, trees, or wallow in the mud, or swim in the pond. Plus she'd have so many companions. SANCTUARY NOW!!

Oh please. Circuses have been around for a long time. It used to be the cool thing to go to the circus. Now people want to act like this? Leave these people alone. The kids love going to see the elephant and monkeys and you want to take that away from them? I am sure the people complaining do a lot of things they shouldn't do too. I know the people who are complaining, and they just need to stop. You are being ridiculous!

I don't like seeing animals chained up, domestic or not. When i went to the circus at the DECC last year there were silent protestors, but their pictures depicting how animals are cared for really hit home and I haven't gone to one since. I don't think I ever will again.

This circus has numerous USDA citations, go to circuses.com and look up Liebel circus to see. Go to YouTube videos and watch the videos I have taken myself of her abuse! Animals don't belong in the circus!

Her name isn't Tiny. The African elephant's name is Nosey. This circus lies about her name to hide facts about them! Poor Nosey.
