Duluth city officials say the skywalk project being built over Lake Avenue is about 30 percent complete.

Meanwhile A&L Properties of Duluth is looking to expand the aerial walkway from the Tech Village across to the Weiland Block Building on the lower side of Superior Street near Lake Avenue.

Officials say private dollars would be used for that project.

Right now the expansion over Lake Avenue is projected to cost taxpayers $2.6 million.

However, city officials say the project is worth every penny.

"It's hoped, that once it's 100-percent complete that it actually spurs business," said Terry Groshong, Duluth city architect.

The first phase of the skywalk expansion is expected to be complete by October.

Down the road, the city wants to link Fond du Luth casino to the aerial walkway.
