On Wednesday, stakeholders and community members converged at the Duluth Depot to learn how the facility could accommodate the Northern Lights Express.
The train proposal calls for high speed rail service between the Twin Ports and the Twin Cities.
Officials say Wednesday's open house wrapped up three days of intense planning and design work by a project consultant.
At the session, the public caught a glimpse of what the depot could look like if the train becomes a reality. Project leaders say the depot has the amenities needed to bring passenger rail back to the shores of Lake Superior.
"It has the size, it has the opportunity, it has enough rail line...for Northern Lights Express and other rail facilities to occur here," said Paul May, architect for Miller Dunwiddie Architecture.
Project spokespeople say they're still trying to determine how much it would cost to renovate the depot. Experts say the proposed train could be up and running by the end of 2012.
