Fire Risk Increases in Northern Wisconsin

Department of Natural Resources wildfire control officials are asking the public to be extra cautious with all sources of outdoor fire and heat including vehicle exhaust systems, machinery, campfires, smoking materials and fireworks.

"Much of the northern third of Wisconsin is experiencing a fifth consecutive year of drought," said Trent Marty DNR chief of forest protection.

DNR northern region fire control staff will be on standby over the weekend with fire detection aircraft available for patrol. Citizens are instructed to call 911 immediately if they see a fire. Fire officials note that the number of fires for this time of year is up all across the North.
