But as Tiffany Tarrolly explains, the basis of its operation could pose a challenge to those who live in certain parts of the northland.

Google says it plans to lure millions of users through its new operating system, Chrome OS.

It won't officially be released until the middle of next year, but already bloggers and computer geeks are speculating at the on- going dance between Microsoft and Google.

"Where Google came out with chrome which was sort of a swing at Microsoft's Internet Explorer, and now Microsoft came out with Bing which is a swing at the search capabilities of Google," said Internet Entrepreneur Dan Thralow.

He says it's Google's turn to take a swing, and it promises to pack quite a punch with its new Operating System.

Rather than running on your computer, the Google OS will use the force of the Internet.

But some question whether that will really make for a knockout.

"The challenge of that is that it's still going to be slower because of people's connections over the internet," said Thralow.

The advantage- you can access your files and documents wherever you have internet.

The disadvantage for some Northlanders- some locations don't even have access to the internet.

"If you're somewhere that doesn't have internet access, how are you going to be able to do your word processing?" Thralow explained.

Local software developer Robert Linnemann is a bit more optimistic.
He says, with all the new kinds of emerging technologies, Northlanders are learning to adapt.

"That's changing a lot up here and I see a lot of people with iPhones or ipod touches," Linnemann said.

There are still a lot of unknowns about this new operating system, such as how it will generate revenue for the company.

Thralow and Linnemann agree on this point however, the more people Google can get online, the more money the company will make.

"Google has everything to gain off making something only internet aware," said Linnemann.

"The feeling is that is the more comfortable people are with computers, the more they're going to use the internet to search and therefore the more money they're going to make from those searches," said Thralow.

No matter who wins the technology battle, the consumer will end up on top- with more flexibility of choice.

In the end, you could have Windows, Apple and Google Chrome OS.
