More Money Granted To Arrowhead Pier Project

By KBJR News 1

The state of Wisconsin has granted an additional $36,738 for the Arrowhead Pier reconstruction project.

This means that the City of Superior should soon be able to advertise bids for the complete project.

City officials had sought the additional state funds to assure that not only the pier would be replaced but that the entire project including security lighting and restrooms could also be completed.

The pier reconstruction project will replace the current pier, add a new boat launch, install security lighting, improve handicap seating and access, and construct restrooms, a fish cleaning station and a picnic shelter.

The existing Arrowhead Pier is what remains of a wooden draw bridge connecting Superior and Duluth across the St. Louis River and was established as a fishing pier in 1987.

The pier affords citizens of all ages, particularly elderly and disabled individuals, access for fishing and recreational enjoyment.

However, it is deteriorating and badly in need of reconstruction.

The total cost of the Arrowhead Pier project will be approximately $800,000 upon completion and funding was secured with the help of State Senator Bob Jauch and State Representative Nick Milroy.
