Study Suggests More Flexible Security Needed At Border Crossing

By KBJR News 1

A new study is suggesting more flexible security at U.S. and Canadian border crossings to improve commerce and trade between the two countries.

The Detroit Regional Chamber has worked with the Washington, D.C.-based Brookings Institution on the report to be unveiled Tuesday in Detroit.

The study also recommends increased communication and collaboration between the Obama Administration and the Canadian government.

Obama is scheduled to appear Tuesday afternoon in Warren, a Detroit suburb.

The study says the U.S. has one policy at border crossings with
Canada and Mexico following 9/11.

But Chamber spokeswoman Sarah Hubbard says the relationship with Canada is unique and requires a different approach that focuses more on a freer flow for commerce.
