Bemidji, MN (NNCNOW.com) - We now know the little girl found dead Thursday morning in Bemidji was a victim of exposure to our extreme winter weather.
Beltrami County authorities confirm the six-year-old girl died as the result of hypothermia.
Police were called to the Carter Place Townhomes early Thursday where they found the youngster's lifeless body.
Temperatures had dropped to 25 degrees below zero overnight.
It's still not clear how the child ended outside in the cold.
The girl was a first grader and counselors were at her Bemidji school Friday to speak with her classmates and teachers.
