A Northland family that has battled tragedy received some help from several 'Divas' on Saturday afternoon.

Earlier this year, we brought you the story of Dan and Sara Johnson of Cloquet. The couple lost their son to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome last year. Then Dan and two of his children were involved in a car crash that caused severe injuries.

Habitat for Humanity has been helping the family fulfill the American dream ever since. The organization hosted Diva Day to help the Johnson family.

"It's a chance for women to show that they know how to pound nails and build a house too," said Daryl Yankee of Habitat for Humanity.

Both Dan and Sara have been through a lot and have had to put plans on hold as well.

"We've always talked about wanting and owning a home, and we've gone thorough a long process of going through applications and with all the bad things happening, (we) couldn't afford it," Sara said.

But helping hands, have helped to make their dream a reality.

"It's a pretty good feeling," said Dan. "I never realized how many people actually cared."

On Saturday workers were putting up siding on Dan and Sara's new home. The plan is to have the family all moved in by this Thanksgiving.

Workers say they're happy to rebuild a future for the Johnson family.

"Even though it's raining and it's kind of a yucky day, this is what warms the heart," said Judy Dinger of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

The work thus far has met the family's approval.

"It is by far, even better than I thought it was going to be--even with the weather the ladies don't stop," said Dan.

With all the turmoil the family has experienced, Habitat for Humanity says a key step toward a better life is a healthier way of living.

"The rental situation that they're in is not working for them, it's unsafe," said Yankee.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is sponsoring a large portion of the home's cost.
