Twin Ports Business Work To Be More Sustainable

August 6, 2010

Thirteen Twin Ports organizations spent the last year working to become more sustainable tonight and they shared their outcomes.

The organizations including the Duluth Chamber of Commerce and City of Duluth participated in training provided by "Sustainable Twin Ports," a non–profit organization working to further economic, environmental and social sustainability.

Sustainable Twin Ports project coordinator Mary Meisterheim says many in the Duluth–Superior area have a strong desire to move in a more efficient direction.

"Tonight was sort of their graduation they reported the outcomes of these initiatives and they included things like reducing their waste 50% and reducing energy use and energy bills; creating better policies for their employees," said Meisterheim.

More businesses than expected have already signed up in hopes to be the next participants in the program.
