Halloween Impaired Drivers Beware

By KBJR News 1

Minnesota Law Enforcement officials will be trick-or-treating for impaired drivers tonight.

Experts say Halloween has become one of the biggest party nights of the year.

Officials say more people are expected to be celebrating this time around since Halloween falls on a Saturday this year.

During Minnesota Halloween party weekends... from the years 2006 to 2008, officials say seven of 15 traffic deaths were alcohol-related.

During this period, officials say about 1,400 motorists were arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Cheri Marti with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety explains, "What we're concerned about is people getting behind the wheel and driving after being buzzed or truly being impaired. So that is a risk on Halloween."

Authorities would like to remind party-goers to plan a safe-ride home before indulging in the Halloween festivities.

If you have brains and drink, thats laughable right there, when you drink its changes the way you think. 95 percemt you say, so its the other 5 percent that are creating all the traffic fatalities. Hmm doest seem to add up to me. Im not saying smoking is good for you, But im definatly saying drunk behind the wheel is a choice that a achohol clouded mind makes. Smoking is not the issue here, drunk driving is, so please get off your soap box and stick to the issue at hand. Thanks

Smoking&drinking kills, yes. But nothing more horrible than the slow miserable death that comes from smoking. If you have brains and drink, you don't drive, period. If you do drive, you have few brains. If you have brains and smoke, think long and hard about what it feels like to end your life breathing thru a pillow, and then you do die slowly in the end, but so do others who had to breathe your disgusting exhaust.

Yeah well I would rather smoke and "kill myself slowly" as you put it than have a drunk behind the wheel destroy my family!

well smoking is killing you and everyone around you every single time you light up, so those very few that are actually intoxicated enough and get behind a wheel don't quite match up to a smokers stupidity. because 95% of people who go out and have more than enough drinks to drive get a ride home. Those who smoke 100% of the time are killing people slowly....
