Foul Play Suspect in Sawyer County Fire

Authorities believe the 43-year old man found among the remains of a burned building was the victim on a homicide.

Around 7:30 Saturday night, the Sawyer County Dispatch Center received a report of a possible structure fire on County Highway F in Edgewater Township in Sawyer County.

Responding units discovered the body of an adult male in the structure.

The nature of the man's wounds and evidence located near the body led officers to believe the man was the victim of foul play.

After searching through the night for a suspect, the body of another deceased male was located in the ashes of a separate mobile home fire near Spooner.

Evidence recovered at the fire scene leads police to strongly believe the deceased subject is the suspect in the Edgewater Township homicide.

The names of both suspects are being withheld pending notification of family and positive identification.

The Winsconsin Department of Criminal Investigation and the State Fire Marshall are assisting with both scenes.
