DWI Chair Pulled And Re-posted On eBay

By KBJR News 1

The infamous DWI motorized chair has hit a speed bump.

Proctor Police were shocked to learn that eBay had pulled the item on Monday.

But police have now re-listed the chair under a different name.

Yesterday authorities received a notice from the La-Z-Boy company about the trademark name being used in the auction ad.

Authorities say La-Z-Boy filed a complaint with eBay, and the auction ad was subsequently pulled.

Late Monday, bidding on the chair had topped $43,000.

"I was really devastated," said Chief Walter Wobig of the Proctor Police Department.

Authorities say they have tried to contact eBay about the situation. But attempts to get in touch with the auction website have been unsuccessful

"I went back in there and I re-listed the chair, I just haven't used the trademark name," said Wobig.

Anderson says he's mad about losing his chair and police cashing in on his loss.

"You know what--I wish it (the bidding) was zero...because (the) Proctor Police Department don't need the money," he said.

Authorities say they do need the money and plan to use it to fund several important police needs.

"They're capitalizing on it for the police department and I don't think that's right," said Anderson.

But authorities say there's an important message to remember about the chair story.

"Just don't drink and drive--that's the bottom line," said Wobig.

I like how "Mr. Anderson" did something wrong, and alot of you are blaming the police.

I still don't understand. So if I get pulled over in Proctor for a DUI, I lose my car? I don't think so! Regardless, the idiot lost his toy for being stupid. IMO he should pay the eBay listing fees too.

From what I know, he lost the chair by breaking the law and the law required it, not the police dept. They are not after him but selling it, like any other motorized vehicle they need to deal with. I live in Proctor and am glad the laws are enforced equally for everyone. Mr. Anderson needs to grow up and be responsible for himself, before he drives into one of our kids. I hope he paid for the damages to the car he hit too.

In a previous story about this incident it was stated that Mr. Anderson "forfeited" the chair in a effort to reduce his charges(although I don't understand how forfeiting the chair would result in a lesser charge) so there was no seizure of proerty involved here by the police. forfeited property by drunk drivers or anyone else becomes police property for them to do with as they please in my opinion.

Proctor's motto: "You have a place in Proctor". Right in the back seat of the squad car! The motto should be "Citizens are a profit center!". The predatory PPD just runs speed traps and does very little else.

It is obvious that since this is the first time they have used eBay instead of their normal auction process, they have gone out of their way to draw attention to Dennis and to humiliate him. He will be a millionaire when he sues the ciry of Proctor. I will never set foot in that town again. Bruce K- Key West FL

The only funds the police should get should come right from the city's budget. But with the new seizure and forfeiture laws, police work now has dollar signs attached to it. Legalized theft. From here on out, I'm boycotting anything to do with Proctor.

I see that on ebay there is also now an autographed pic of Mr. Anderson sitting in the chair for sale at 25.00 or best offer. I wonder who is capitalizing on that listing?
