Duluthians Hit The Polls For Election Day 2009

It's Election Day across Minnesota and voters have been hitting their polling places to have their voices heard.

The race to fill seats on both the Duluth City Council and the Duluth School board has created quite the campaign frenzy over the last several weeks.

It's hard to drive down a Duluth street without seeing a mirage of campaign signs.

Whether it's the Duluth school board...

"I don't think they're doing enough for what they got right now... but like I say I'm basically interested in a change or something that can work better," says Darlene Luhm of Duluth.

Or the Duluth city council...

"I think we need a change there too," says Luhm.

The call for "Change" from last year's election was still being echoed by some voters at the polls this year.

But will this Election's hype encourage more people to get out and vote?

"I always vote. I think it's a duty of a citizen," says Nicholas Rossi of Duluth.

8 years ago, voters were driven to the polls in larger numbers to weigh in on two ballot questions regarding smoking....the turnout was 61–percent that year, compared to just 28 percent four years ago.

It's been 12 years since Duluth saw an election similar to this one, with the only candidates on the ballot being school board and council members. 36% of voters turned out for that race.
