Three Northland women were awarded by the YWCA today for their ongoing contributions to the Duluth area.

The award coincides with the organization's mission to eliminate racism and empower women while promoting peace.

The sixth annual YWCA Women of Distinction Award was handed out to Rebecca St George, Sara Tomsen and Debby Ortman.

"They are hard workers and visionary and they see what they want to do and figure out how to get there, they really have just incredible work ethics and the ability to vision a better world," says Wendy Ruhnke of the YWCA.

More than 400 people attended the celebration which is also a fundraiser for Spirit Valley's Young Mom's program.

The program aims to help young mom's stay in school and become financially self sufficient.
