Voters Shoot Down Hermantown Referendum

By KBJR News 1

Voters shot down a referendum in the Hermantown School District.

Officials say the proposal called for taxpayers to foot a $58 million bill to cover the cost of various projects.

Those included a plan to build a new high school and to relocate middle school students to the current high school building.

But when it came to the proposal, the majority of voters checked the 'no' box on their ballots.

"The problems aren't going to go away and we've really had no formal discussions on what we're going to do next, so that will be the first step," said Brad Johnson, the school district's superintendent.

Officials say the school board will be meeting in the near future in an effort to examine the situation and devise solutions.

Learn how to budget appropriately and our district wouldn't have this problem. Stop putting so much into hockey and put more toward the education. Not that I don't like hockey, but get real-what's more important a child's educational future or something to skate on?
