Watch out deer, because 500-thousand hunters will be in Minnesota forests Saturday looking to shoot a trophy buck.

Last season almost 200-thousand deer were harvested by hunters.
Hunting is a family tradition for many in Minnesota, and for one northland hunter, the opener has allowed him to reconnect with his father.

Jason Kuehn said "My old man and I haven't spent a whole lot of time in the woods together; you know he doesn't do a lot of wilderness back packing with me, we don't go to the boundary waters so now it's kind of like bam we can do some grown son father bonding type stuff."

With so many hunters in the woods this weekend, blaze orange clothing has been flying of the shelves, but one thing essential for deer hunting is in short supply.

Gander Mountain Sales Manager Connor Cusack "one issue that we're running into is the ammo availability in center fire cartridges, if you haven't gotten your ammo come in and get it, we don't have much left, or we maybe out of it, but we've got something for you to use."

Gander Mountain officials ordered three times as much ammo as last year, and they still have a low supply.
