At video game retailers across the country Monday, hundreds of thousands of video game fans lined up for the midnight release of Call of Duty Modern Warfare Two.

The first person shooter casts you in the role of an Army Ranger and British Special Forces Commando as you try to save the world from a terrorist threat.

Modern Warfare 2 quite possibly could be the most anticipated video game of all time, and it has gamers excited to say the least.

Mikel "Ahhh Chu" Salus said "I try not to read too much about it because it makes me you know even more excited and it just drags on so I've been trying to avoid as much as possible on the details."

Gamers aren't the only ones excited about the game; video game retailers have been waiting for a triple A title like Modern Warfare 2 to salvage their year.

Coy Christmas owner of Brag Game Rights says while people spent their money on other titles, he believes it was just to hold them over until Modern Warfare 2 was released.

"There's no point in buying any other games right now because from stand point selling to the customer, people are going to want them but this is going to be the game that people are going to want for the next year."

Modern Warfare Two is expected to make roughly 500–million dollars this week, far surpassing any Hollywood blockbuster this year.
That staggering amount legitimizes the purchasing power of typical video game consumers.

Salus said "I think most games sell more than music and DVD's so it's our generation it's a past time it's a hobby, I think they're just going to get bigger and bigger."

Modern Warfare 2 is officially released Tuesday.

Currently Grand Theft Auto Four holds the record for highest grossing game in 24 hours.

That controversial title brought in a whopping 310–million dollars.
