WLSSD Looking To Collect Unused Perscription Drugs

If you have unused prescription drugs around your home, the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District (WLSSD) is asking you not to flush them down your toilet.

On November 20th, WLSSD will be collecting pharmaceuticals at no charge.

Spokespeople say the facility partners with law enforcement agencies during the program to ensure that the drugs are properly disposed of.

Periodically the facility collects unused drugs in an effort to curb water contamination.

"To eliminate the potential for some of these pharmaceuticals getting directed into our local waterways is a good thing," said Karen Anderson, WLSSD director of community relations.

If you're interested in taking part in the collection program, the facility is located just off 27th Avenue West in Duluth.

Spokespeople say they plan to hold similar collections every two months.
