A Goodhue County man with a criminal history has been charged with poaching a white-tailed buck believed to have the largest set of eight-point antlers ever measured.

Troy Alan Reinke, 32, of Cannon Falls was charged this morning in Goodhue County with 13 counts of illegal taking deer.

If convicted, he faces $19,000 in fines, up to a year in jail and revocation of his hunting license.

Reinke allegedly shot the world-class deer with a bow and arrow on Halloween while hunting on private property.

According to court records, Reinke admitted to shooting three deer in October, including the trophy 8-pointer.

He allegedly shot the trophy eight-pointer after shooting another eight-pointer earlier in the month.

This guy is a loser. Illegal hunter's have no place in the woods. Confiscation of the antlers, maximum fines, and revocation of this criminal's hunting rights and confiscation of his firearms would be just. When this happens all hunters become losers. The general public already has a distorted view of the hunter. This only makes it worse. Also, the thought of this outlaw making money on this upsets me. All story profits should be garnished by the state game department.

Big deal.So the guy shot a few bucks. As long as he has tags from friends or family and tags the deer he shot I don't think theirs anything wrong with it.

Tanner, youre nuts! It's people like you that do not have common sense that should be restricted as far as firearms are concerned. The death penalty for a poacher? I don't think so, what a moronic thing to even think, let alone say publically. The man should not be allowed to obtain a license for hunting again and i feel the maximum punishment is enough to make the man think twice before soing something so selfish again.

One word: Integrity; that is what separates true hunters like myself and others from criminals. He should lose his hunting priviledges for life! Its a hard line, but when you can't control yourself, someone has to do it for you.

If you are hunting on your own property, I am in favor of allowing you to shoot deer whenever you want in whatever quantity you want, as long as you report the kills. This would reduce a statewide problem: Too many deer, too many crazy city hunters.

Terrible crime, death penalty? What's the crime in shootig a few deer?

Serious Crime, he killed an animal. Not serious. Beating kids, attempted murder serious. Poaching deer, only serious for loosers who base there lives on how many animals they kill in a year.

He killed an animal Yeah!

I'm surprised a buck like this was even taken in MN. With your stupid week early (rut disrupting)hunting season, you guys produce average bucks and by the same token, IA and WI always produce records. It must have swam across the St. Croix...

I think death penalty is taking it a bit far, although I agree that this is a terrible crime.

This guy deserves to be convicted to the highest measure. This guy is ridiculous. I'm an avid hunter and have turned in a poacher before. I find it VERY unfair that people can get by with it with little or no convictions, when me and my friends sit and walk all 9 days of the season. sombody seriously needs to do somthing about this fella. Too bad that minnesota didn't have the death penalty. thats how strongly i feel about this.

To say that buck would have got to 10 or 12 points is misleading. Lots of deer never get more then 8 points - it's in their genes. This buck was prob at its peek. Too bad the guy's a loser and took this majestic buck illegally

They figured out where he shot it because he admitted it. Study the article a little more closely. He was probably caught bragging about it (who could keep something that exciting a secret?) which left him with no choice but to admit it.

I wonder what a world record whitetail rack of this would fetch at auction 100K or better maybe. Thats why you see these big bucks poached. Great work DNR keep it up.

It doesn't matter. You can't take 2 bucks in the same year in MN without using someone else's tag on one of them. This person would also have to be hunting with you at the time. If he shot 2 bucks this fall in MN, he's out of luck.

how would they figure out where he shot this?!?!?:-)
