Duluth City Council District Four Recount Ends Quickly

The Duluth City Council District Four recount ended quickly this morning, when Gordon Grant withdrew his challenge after election officials finished recounting just three of the precincts.

The recount was conducted pursuant to the written request submitted by candidate Gordon Grant last week.

City officials followed the recount guidelines as listed in Minnesota state statute.

"It's a manual review of each ballot and we make a call on who we believe is the winner of that ballet and each team can challenge it," says Jeff Cox, City Clerk.

Grant's campaign says they originally wanted a recount because the number of people who voted in the district four race didn't match the number of registered voters.

After going through three of the precincts, they found that there were 64 people who didn't vote for a district four candidate at all, a trend they said would adequately account for the discrepancy.

November thirds election results with Kerry Gauthier ahead by 152 votes will stand as is, making him the seat holder come January.
